   Members of Thrivent Financial hosting Identity Theft Seminar at Ascension Lutheran Chruch, 300 N. Lafayette St. Shelby, NC (September 11, 2010) – Members from the South Blue Ridge Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans are planning an Identity Theft Seminar and Paper Shredding Event. 
  It is sponsored by the chapters’ five Lutheran congregations: St. Matthew, Resurrection, Ascension ,Advent, and Trinity.  The seminar will be presented by Thrivent Financial Representative, Terry Halvorson.  The public, church members, friends, & family are invited. Automated Shredding, Inc. of Charlotte will have a document shredding truck for shredding of personal files and documents.  The shredding is free; however, we will have a basket for a love offering, with proceeds going to Interfaith Alliance, a local Shelby charity. 
 
  Shredding is from 8:30am until 10:30am.  The seminar begins at 10:30am with light refreshments.  Shredding rules are posted on the bulletin board outside the church office.

 WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACTIVITIES

Adult Studies

Mary a Pregnant Virgin  Frank Honeycutt, Pastor of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC will take us through 12 fresh readings from the Old and New Testaments in his book Mary a Pregnant Virgin. The through line is the season of Pentecost in which we grow in the faith delivered to us from the Saints. This discussion group is open to all members. A nursery will be provided during the study.  Pastor Outten will facilitate the discussion on Wednesday evenings between 6:15-7:15pm. 

Bring your bag dinner and join us in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30 until 6:15pm for prayer and fellowship. 

Chidren's Studies:

Girls Class:  VIRTUES AND VALUES. 

Girls K-6th grade plan to join Kimberla Burrows and Barbara Tackett in the kitchen for an hour of fun activities, Bible study, snack and more as we learn about how we live the life God planned for us. 

Boys’ Class: K-8th grade

ARE YOU READYYYYYYY!!?

“Are you ready for some football?  A Wednesday Night Party? Are you ready for some flag football?”  I may have missed my Hank Williams, Jr. quote just a little bit, yet it does seem to fit for our upcoming Wednesday night activities this fall.  We will enjoy a time of fellowship that will include learning/playing flag football with a devotional lesson at ‘halftime’ each week.   We will meet in backyard of the church near the garden starting at 6:15 each week and finish at 7:15.   If you are able, please join us for the Wednesday night ‘bring your own bag lunch’ pre-game meal prior to ‘game time’ from 5:30-6:15 each week.  The boys’ class will be facilitated by Jason Burrows and Doug Bridges.  Please contact either of us if you have questions.

RESURRECTION’S BOOK CLUB

The next book club meeting will be on Thursday, October 21st at the home of Dena Blalock, 7:00pm.  The book for discussion is  “While My Sister Sleeps” by Barbara Delinsky.   The novel is filled with thought-provoking ideas about the nature of life itself, how emotions effect the decisions we make, and how letting go can be the hardest thing to do and the greatest expression of love all at the same time.

CONGRATULATIONS CONFIRMANDS

On Sunday, August 29th, Sarah Ophelia Blalock and Mary Ashton Treece made public affirmation of their baptism.  Sarah would like to thank the Resurrection members for being there for her and to thank Joanne and Glenn for being her mentors.  Ashton sincerely thanks everyone for their support through the years and their help when things got tough.

As members, you are asked to support them and to pray form them in their life in Christ.

 FALL SUNDAY SCHOOL LINEUP

We have wonderful classes lined up for the fall Sunday school.  We look forward to seeing all the children and adults participant in a

Sunday School class.

Nursery- teacher Kris Huffstetler

She will be working with the little ones on simple bible stories and fun crafts.  

Preschool 3-4 yrs olds- teacher Ashley Robinson

K-2nd grade – teachers Catherine Outten and Kimberly Spicer

The curriculum for both the Preschool and K- 2nd classes will be  "Learn from the Bible to Live the Good News."  Every session will help the children Know the Word, Grow in Faith and Show Service.  Each session also relates one Faith Trait (i.e, generosity, kindness, humility) to a Bible character and provides activities that develop the trait in the children.

3rd-6th grades The Chaos Class- teachers Lisa Medlin and Lori Lewis

The Chaos class will be studying the Apostle's Creed, learning the books of the Bible, tending their plot in the memorial garden and learning about the gospel lessons.

7-12 grades-  teacher Greg Grabert, Pastor Outten & Mike Blalock 

The class program will be God and Church my Journey with Christ.  It will be a faith journey with three parts: meeting Jesus, worshiping God, and witnessing and ministering for Christ.

The Open Door Class—teacher Doug Bridges

New study beginning on September 12 

The Ladies Class—facilitators Essie Marie Foster, Earl Filter, and John McGinnis

The class will continue to use the Adult Study from Augsburg Fortress.

The Adventures Class—facilitators Milt Colburn and Earl Filter

Sisters In Faith

Plan to join us on Monday, Sept. 13, 7:00pm at the home of Leigh Bell.  Devotion and prayer, Kimberly Spicer. 

Plan to join one of Resurrection’s circles this year.  They’re a great source of ministry and fellowship.
